Maurizio Fioravanti

'Tulip' brooch in micro-mosaic with pear-shaped diamond

micro-mosaic, diamond, gold, silver, titanium

Rome, Italy

description

Realistically designed as a tulip, the flower composed of an intricate micro mosaic, embellished to the centre with a spessertite garnet weighing 7.50 carats, within a surround of tzavorite garnets, to a contour in titanium, the reverse mounted in gold, silver, suspending a 3.00 carat pear-shaped diamond drop, signed Vamgard Maurizio Fioravanti. Italian assay marks for gold and silver.

Rendered with botanical precision, this flower recalls the heightened realism and symbolic intensity of Dutch Golden Age still-life paintings, in which tulips were celebrated as objects of beauty, transience and desire. Fioravanti’s micro-mosaic petals achieve a painterly subtlety of colour and texture, while the spessartite garnet at the heart and the surrounding tzavorite garnets heighten the idea of natural abundance. The titanium contour introduces a contemporary tension, framing the flower like a modern reliquary.

Maurizio Fioravanti's relationship with this virtuoso realism is also playful, seen here through the illusion of a dew drop within the mosaic, which finds its echo in the suspended pear-shaped diamond, transforming observation into sorcery. This dialogue between micro-mosaic and gemstone epitomises Fioravanti’s art—where past and future, discipline and fantasy, converge. The result is not merely a jewel, but a miniature tableau that invites wonder, evoking the joy of rediscovery through a language that has endured for millennia.
