Georg Klimt, one of Gustav Klimt’s brothers, trained as a sculptor and metal engraver (Ziseleur) at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. Shortly after graduating in 1897, he gained considerable attention for his refined goldsmith and metalwork. Among his major works are undoubtedly the bronze doors of the main entrance to the Vienna Secession building, constructed in 1898 based on designs by Joseph Maria Olbrich. This relief depicts the profile of a woman, framed by an architectural border adorned with floral and ornamental motifs. The treatment of surfaces is especially striking: the finely modeled facial features and meticulously rendered hair stand in vivid contrast to the visibly hammered background and the more sculpturally articulated elements of the frame. This brass relief is a remarkable example of Secessionist metalwork, distinguished by its exceptional craftsmanship. It was created by one of the leading metal artists of his time and reflects a refined stylistic sensibility and technical mastery.
