Stanley William Hayter

Summer Evening

57 1/2 x 45"

description

Undisputedly one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Stanley William Hayter worked in America, France, and Ireland throughout his career. His workshops in New York & Paris were the nexus of new thinking and practices in making work. They were populated by an international mixture of artists. Throughout his life, Hayter painted every day, constantly adding to ways to make a painting - just as he revolutionized printmaking. His work in all media is groundbreaking, rooted in science and visual experimentation. His significance is extraordinary.

Summer Evening is a late, powerful work on canvas. It was included in Hayter's 1986 exhibition at Jean Claude Reidel Gallery in Paris and is illustrated in the exhibition catalog and noted on the exhibition checklist in same catalog.
