A Classical Games Table

Height: 31 ½” Width: 38” Depth: 19”

description

The top of this fine Classical games table is comprised of solid mahogany boards with figuring usually reserved for veneering. Conforming to the shape of the top, the apron is wrapped in beautiful mahogany veneers. The veneers are set apart in sections framed by minute half-round moldings. Inside the well of the apron, the original wallpaper liner reveals the brilliant colors used in this period. The top is supported by lyre-shaped uprights. The front lyre is ornamented by stamped brass rosettes and brass rods suggesting the strings of a lyre. This rests on a plinth with incurvate sides framed with small brass moldings. Delicate rosettes are painted on the incurvate sides of the plinth. Sabre legs are attached to the corners of the plinth. The tops of the legs are decorated with stamped brass rosettes and painted foliage. The legs terminate with brass toe caps and casters with gilt-lacquered finishes.
