Matisse employed one of his favorite models, Nezy Hamid Chawat, to create his Variation 15. As he chose which drawings he would include in the print series, he would pin the drawings up on the wall. Our drawing has small pin hole marks, evidence that of the myriad of drawings he produced, this was a favorite.
