A German Impressionist painter and illustrator, Slevogt experimented with à-la-prima painting as early as 1898, even before his companions Lovis Corinth and Max Liebermann. Painted with spontaneity and great freshness at Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria, Germany in the summer of 1900, our painting is an early example of Slevogt's plein-air painting.
