This excellent example of Pointillism, Petitjean's portrait of his daughter Marcelle, has the fresh post-impressionist brush work and palette of the early period along with the intimacy of a family portrait. It can be dated according to its similarity to drawings in the collection of the Musée Macon which were done after Petitjean’s return from a 1913 trip to the Netherlands. In an April 1914 journal entry, Petitjean notes that he is starting a series featuring Marcelle and her mother Louise, and our work may be one of these.
