Frederick Kandler

A Set of Four George II Antique English Silver Candlesticks

Fine examples of Rococo figural design.

Height: 10 3/4"

description

Though English, the expressive caryatid design of these candlesticks shows the influence of Frederick Kandler's German heritage--though in truth, Kandler's heritage and biography is largely a mystery. The sculptor Johann Kandler, a leading designer at the Meissen porcelain manufactory, may have been a relation.

The 1957 catalog states: "The arms are those of ? Burroughs impaling Offley". Sixty-six years later the question mark still stands; we have made no further progress on identifying them.
